Fear to offend part 3143247

One of the films showing at the Cardiff Film Festival is called “F*CK”.

How are you supposed to pronounce that? “Can I have two tickets for eff-star-cee-kay please?” Or, more likely, people will just say “fuck”.

Andy and I have had countless conversations about this kind of censorship, it being one of many things that really winds us up. (Me somewhat more.) It’s daft enough in print, when the word is processed as “fuck” anyway. It’s sillier when it’s on subtitles on TV and the actual spoken word is left alone, but the subtitle is “f*cked” around with. This is the epitome of foolishness. Not only do the same points apply as those to newspapers and TV (unless they actually say “eff-star-cee-kay” in the actual film), but it’s a film at a Film Festival attended in the main by open-minded people unafraid of a bit of colourful language.
